Creating a New League

administrative login > Box Leagues

From the Box League Periods page, click on the Create new league link:

This will bring up the Create new league page:

Almost all of the options can be edited after you have created a new league.

General
League Name The name as it appears on all listings.
Visible to public  You can create and setup a league without the public being able to see it. This is useful if you want to take your time over getting things right before making it visible to the public or to players. This is shown on the main box league page with a green indicator for visible against the League Name.
Display Order This sets the order in which leagues are displayed and can be useful for grouping leagues for different sports together. This is shown on the main box league page as [2] for instance against the League Name.
Show phone number  See Data Protection below.
Show email address  See Data Protection below.
Default Box Name When you create your first league, and any time a new box is added, it will be named according to the default name. For instance, if you enter the default as 'Box' then the boxes will be named Box 1, Box 2 etc. However, you can change the box names at any time via the Populate link.
Default Boxes
Start number of Players  Only visible when creating a new league. If you enter a value for this, then the system will use the Players per Box value to automatically create the correct number of boxes to start your league. Any Start number of boxes value you enter will be ignored.
Start number of Boxes  Only visible when creating a new league. If you leave the Start number of Players blank, then you can simply set the number of starting boxes as you wish.
Players per Box  This is the number of players in each box, up to a maximum of 10. For more details, see Players Per Box.
Is Doubles  Use this to make it a doubles league.
Default Rules For all rules, see the Rules page.

Data Protection

Clearly you want players to be able to contact each other, but you do not want any contact details being visible to the public. Consequently there is no facility for displaying player phone numbers or email addresses for box leagues on the public site.

However, you can optionally tick the Show phone number and Show email address boxes, and that information will be shown for logged in players only:

In addition, this will also decide if the phone number and / or email address is shown on the printout sheets.

Default Boxes

A set of boxes, with the space to add a certain number of players, can be created and you could enter as many players you liked in any box; 4 in Box 1, 6 in Box 2, 5 in Box 3 etc.

However, the problem with this approach is that it creates severe restrictions on automating the whole process. The way to handle it correctly is to have boxes with a default number of players per box, and adjust the number of boxes accordingly.

For more on this see Default Players Per Box.

For your first box league, you will want to try and get the initial box numbers about right, and this can be done using some simple maths.

First Box League

When you create a new league, an initial set of boxes are created at the same time using the Default Number of Boxes and the Default Players per Box. Although this can be changed later, it is best to get it right initially.

Default Rules

Although you may enter the actual match scores, box leagues are generally concerned with the number of games won by each player, which are then converted into points according to the rules.
