Players, Profiles, Logins and Registration |
Players can be added to League Master in several different ways, depending upon the usage, and this leads to a number of scenarios as far as usernames and passwords are concerned. Registered Players For any tournament, players are usually added via online entry, and for box leagues, players are usually added via a main registration process. In both of these cases, the player is deemed 'registered'. A registered player MUST include a valid and unique Username, a valid Password and a valid and unique Email Address. You can see the 'registered' status on the Player Profile page: Non-Registered Players For a team league site, players are usually added by a team captain, and no registration is required for this. In fact all that is needed may be just the name, although other data may be required according to player settings. Non-Registered Players in Tournaments or Box Leagues A common scenario is where a tournament uses online entry but at the last minute a player is added by the administrator without the player registering. This allows the tournament event to proceed but without any email address, username and password, the player cannot enter a tournament via online entry in the future, so is forced to create a duplicate. The solution is that either you obtain the email address of the player and include this when the player is initially added, along with an initial username and password, or you make a point of adding this information as soon as possible after the event. However, to ensure that the necessary email address, username and password are always added, valid and not duplicated, you should set the Enforce Login: This has exactly the same requirements as a registered player. Duplicate Players This generally arises for a Team Leagues site that also runs Tournaments or Box Leagues. Assume a player has been added by a club so that they can play in the team leagues, which requires no login details. If you then run a tournament, you can select this player for inclusion in an event without any problems, but what if you then use Online Entry? When the player now enters using online entry, a duplicate player will be created, this time with full login credentials and a user added email address. Under normal circumstances, you will want to prevent such player duplications. While duplications don't necessarily break the system, it means that profile information on match winning and general stats are shared across multiple profiles, and it can create confusion when selecting players for events. It may also confuse external systems such as SquashLevels. In order to prevent this, you must set an existing player to Enforced Login, as above. Now the player can use the Forgotten Password function to obtain their username and password, assuming you don't email it directly to them. Connected Links
